Things I’m Loving Lately (Brought to You By The Letter “F”)

I was sitting here this morning, wracking my brain for a blog topic. And then it hit me.

When in doubt, write a list blog.

So, friends, I’m sharing with you a list of things that are making my life a little more exciting lately. And lo and behold, in a totally accidental way, every single thing on my list starts with the letter F. That doesn’t quite equal alliteration, but it’s really dang close. (High five, high school English teacher.) And so, without further ado…

Fthings I’m Floving Flately

Farscape

The hubs and I are really into this whole “binge-watching” television on Netflix. I mean, we were always sorta binge watchers, anyway, just not in an “All Day Sunday In Our Cookie Pants Fourteen Episodes” kind of way. Thank you, Netflix, for profoundly changing our weekends.

We’ve devoured tasty gems like “Breaking Bad,” “Chuck,” and “Sherlock,” all thanks to the wonders of steaming. And now, we’ve delved back into one of our favorites–the all-too-delightful Sci-Fi series, “Farscape.” It was one of those shows we bonded over back when binge watching meant having to rewind VHS tapes. Oh, those were the days. (PS: John Crichton, I still adore you.)

Fitbit

I got a FitBit for Brian’s birthday. (Technically, I think it was supposed to be my Valentine’s Day gift, but I bought it for myself back in January. I’m an overachiever like that.) It’s the Charge HR, and I’ve gotta tell ya, readers, I adore this little bit of technology. I’m not one of those folks that wears it all day, every day, and I certainly don’t sleep in it (although it can track your sleep and let you know how often you’re waking up.) But I DO wear it when I work out. It keeps track of my heart rate, tells me how many calories I’ve burned, and monitors how many steps I take. And when it spits out data like this:

werq

…it not only makes me squeal with delight over the “WERQ” I put in (see what I did there?) but it also makes me want to keep wearing it. Nothing says success like dancing off almost 600 calories in an hour.

Fitz

Are you guys getting sick of hearing about our kitten yet? No? Well that’s good. Because he’s a little fuzzball of energy and adorableness, and he puts a smile on my face every single day. He likes to take frequent breaks during meals to hop on your lap for a ‘thank you’ scratch, he enjoys playing with rolled up receipts more than anything else on the planet, he sleeps under the covers so he can keep an eye on the “blanket monster,” and he plays fetch.

Oh, and guys? He still “meeps.”

HOLY CRAPBALLS SO CUTE!!!!!!!

K stupid

I’ve been collecting stuff for awhile (mostly Doctor Who goodies) but this recent release from Funko made me go all squishy inside. (I also have some of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Funkos, but not the full set yet.)

Allow me to point out that Wash is holding—-*sob*—a tiny toy dinosaur. So. Much. Love.

(Also, bonus points for the flowers in the background–those were a Valentine’s Day gift from my Fabulous hubby. Cue chorus of “awwww” now.)

And finally….

To Protect And Serve

Ok, so this one is a bit of a stretch, because the only thing I watch on television on Friday nights is Blue Bloods. And Blue Bloods starts with a B not an F. But it’s my blog, so I can cheat if I want to. And I had to include it in this list for one reason and one reason only.

And no, it’s not (just) Donnie Wahlberg.

It’s because of Jamie Reagan and Edit (pronounced Eddie) Jenko.

Guys, I ship them so hard, I might as well be Fed Ex. It’s TOTES OBVI that they’re madly in love with each other. But here’s the thing–they’re partners, so they can’t express their feelings  because then they won’t be able to work together any more. Oh, the feels!

I’m tempted to start a letter-writing campaign to CBS titled “Why Jamie and Edit need to get together and start making little Reagan babies.” Wanna join me?

So that’s it, gang. Just a few little things that are keeping this gal happy right now. Is there an item in your life right now that’s making you grin from ear to ear? (Extra points if it starts with the letter “f.”)

Happy Anniversary, FRIENDS

For those of you not in the know, we just celebrated the tenth anniversary of the final episode of the best show ever, Friends.

Crap. Now I want a milkshake.

Anywho, I am a HUGE fan of this show. So much so that I still use quotes from the dialogue on a regular basis. (Could I BE any cooler?)  So when my newsfeed started lighting up with Friends articles right around the anniversary date, I clicked on and read them ALL. My favorite? A blog by a writer named Tsh, called “The One Where I Love Friends.” It’s hilarious. And I loved it so much I went in search of Friends gifs that I could relate to my own life. Here’s what I came up with.

Me when I get question right on Final Jeopardy:

a woo-hoo!

Me when I’m on a diet:

MINE!

Me when the cats start yowling for food at 5 o’clock in the morning:

shut uuuuup

Me when Brian does the laundry without being asked:

how you doin?

Me when that thing happened on The Game of Thrones and I totally wasn’t expecting it:

huh? What?Me when I’m reading people’s Facebook status updates:

GRAMMAR please.

Me with every single baby I encounter:

a boo boo boo

Me with my iPhone when Brian catches me Twitter stalking Zachary Levi:

not guilty

Me in line at the grocery store when a cool jam starts playing:

groovin

Me at my Werq class:

boogaloo

Me with a particularly irritating customer:

grr

Me when I read that Donnie Wahlberg is engaged to She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named:

Whyyyyyyyyyyy?

Me reading Dune:

bo-ring

Me when I’m right and you’re wrong:

dancin'

Me constantly doing jazz hands for no apparent reason:

jazz hands

And finally….me every single time I watch the Friends series finale:

sob

Ok, that was so much fun. Thank you, internet, for having so many wonderful gifs to choose from. Now…I’m gonna go watch Friends all day.

What I’m Lovin’ Lately

You know it’s been a really long time since you posted a blog when you’re faced with the log-in page as soon as you click over to Word Press.

Oops.

The thing is, life has been…well, lively, lately. And after all, the whole point of life is to be an active participant. Am I right? So that’s what I’ve been doing. Participatin’.

When I’m not working out, working, or out, there are a few things that have been tying up my extra attention the past week or two. And since those things have kept me so busy, I thought the least I could do would be share them with you. Then we can participate together, and I’ll stop feeling so guilty about my lack of blogging, because you’ll be enjoying life, too.

Here’s a list of things I’m lovin’ lately.

National Grammar Day
You may or may not have known this, but yesterday (March 4, 2014) was National Grammar Day. Now, as a writer, every day is Grammar Day for me. But…it’s nice to have a day set aside in the year to highlight something as important as proper grammar. And no one does it with the same grace and panache as my friends, Fafa and Mario. If you haven’t heard of Glove and Boots, then please, let me introduce you to the funniest video blog on the internet with my FAVORITE one, ever: “Fix Your Grammar.”

NKOTB reference, FTW.

New (To Me) Music
I know, I know. I’m a little late to the Bruno Mars party. Truthfully, I was actually familiar with a few of his songs before his amazing performance on this year’s Super Bowl–I just wasn’t really aware that it was Bruno singing. Ya dig?

Anyway, after witnessing my entire family (ages 26-65, respectively) bobbing their heads along to the music during Super Bowl halftime, Brian and I decided it was high time we downloaded some new tunes. And so, Bruno Mars has taken over our iPods, and we listen to him with an almost religious fervor.

My favorite song changes from day-to-day, but the one that always sends me into a dance frenzy is “The Lazy Song.” And so, I’m here to share it with you today, so you can dance, too.

Also, the monkeys kill me.

Exercise That I Actually ENJOY
I never thought it would happen. I’ve been trying to find a fun method of burning calories since I was in college. Step aerobics–not fun. Bike riding–not fun after the age of 10. Running drills on the elliptical–fun like a root canal is fun.

But a couple of weeks ago, my shiny new Weight Loss Buddy (WLB) and I discovered Werq classes at our local gym. Now we’d tried Zumba, and while it was sort of fun, it was a little more challenging than either of us were quite expecting. But Werq? It’s like Zumba’s favorite hip-hop cousin. And ZOMG, it is SO much fun. I’ve been doing 2-3 classes a week, and have managed to lose 14 pounds and 8.5 inches since Jan 7.

Just watch—it even LOOKS like fun!

The best part is the energy in the class. Everyone who shows up is really ready for a fun hour of dance. So. Much. FUN. And clearly, it’s working!

The Most Epic Song-Bomb, EVER.
You guys remember the video blog I did awhile ago about being song-bombed, right? No? Well click HERE and go watch it….I’ll wait.

Now, if you think THAT song is the most epic bomb, ever, then you haven’t seen the new Lego Movie yet. We saw it two weeks ago, and we’re still walking around singing “Everything is Awesome.” (It doesn’t help that it also runs rampant through the video game, which Brian and I are currently playing together.)

I am warning you now…if you don’t want this ridiculously catchy tune stuck in your head from now until the end of days, you won’t click the play button. But you really do want to hear it, don’t you?

Now, readers, I release you back into the wild, where you’ll inadvertently share your new favorite song with the world. Believe me, you will. You’ll be singing it at the grocery store, in the shower, at the post office, in line at Target….

Heeeee’s BAAAAACCK…
I told myself I wasn’t going to watch it…that it would be too painful after our very public breakup last year. I made a promise to myself to avoid the torture, especially when I learned that SHE would make guest appearances on the show centered around the Wahlberg’s new chain restaurant.

But when Wahlburgers started up a couple of weeks ago, I broke that promise to myself and DVR’d it.

And I hate to admit it, but the truth is…I’m utterly charmed.

It’s funny, it’s heart-warming, and Alma Wahlberg (Mother to Donnie and Mark) is just about the cutest thing in the world.

But I don’t watch it for Alma. Or Mark. Or Paul. Or the burgers.

Nay, I watch it for Donnie.

A bad habit is hard to break, ladies. Especially one that’s been practiced since childhood.

So…what’s been keeping you busy, readers? Got anything fun you’d like to share? I’m always looking for new forms of entertainment. Tell me all about it in the comments below. And remember…

EVERYTHING IS AWESOME….EVERYTHING IS COOL WHEN YOU’RE PART OF A TEAM…EVERYTHING IS AWESOME…WHEN YOU’RE LIVING YOUR DREAM!♪

It’s Official: We’re On a Break.

My name is Abby, and I’m the author and CEO of AbbyGabs (dot) com. I am preparing this statement today in order to share with you my feelings regarding the newly publicized relationship between my pretend celebrity boyfriend, Mr. Donald Edmond Wahlberg, Jr., and one Jennifer “Jenny” Ann McCarthy.

Photo credit goes to Rex Features photographer, Sara Jaye. Embellishment credit goes to me, because it's my blog and I'll draw on celebrities if I want to.

On September 9, 2013, the couple officially announced their relationship on the popular daytime program, “The View.” I witnessed them hugging, kissing, and touching (all while seated relatively close to Barbara Walters. For shame.) He also reportedly filled Ms. McCarthy’s dressing room with balloons and flowers, and has been seen on countless other daytime shows discussing his new state of happiness in the land of lust love.

(I will say that I was impressed that Ms. McCarthy included “the Blockheads” in her adoration of Donnie’s butt. However, unless she can provide photographic evidence of herself in braces sporting an original New Kids on the Block t-shirt from 1991, I will continue to call her status as “Blockhead” into question.)

The pair revealed in this interview that they’d started seeing each other seriously “sometime around the fourth of July.” Let the record reflect that that was mere weeks after my own rendezvous with Donnie in Charlotte.

I would like to be clear on two points: 1) I wish nothing but happiness for Mr. Wahlberg and will always have a soft spot for him in my heart. And 2) I have nothing against Ms. McCarthy (with the exception of her misleading anti-vaccination campaign and her crude Candies ad from the 90s). May happiness rain down upon them both.

I am not bitter. In fact, I’m happy for Donnie. I will always love him and support him and scream for him when he takes off his shirt on his hit television drama, Blue Bloods. But hearts have a way of mending themselves, especially when the fun of searching for a new celebrity boyfriend begins. And so now, I’d like to make a formal announcement.

There is new fake love in my life.

Nathan Fillion

Some of you may have wondered what was going on between me and Nathan back when I first started posting about ComicCon (particularly when my countdown featured him in a ‘front and center’ manner.) The truth is, we’d already started communicating through Twitter, and we actually met up at this year’s Nerd HQ. One thing led to another, and well…I was always meant to be with a Captain, really.

And so, in conclusion, I’d like to thank all of you who supported my stalking relationship with Donnie Wahlberg. We will always be close–in fact, I Tweeted him just this morning. But I hope you can all be happy for Nathan and me, as our relatively new pretend relationship grows. You’ll be interested to know that we enjoy cosplaying together. We love Saturday-long Star Trek marathons. And he’s even teaching me a little Chinese. How cool is that?

If this is your first time visiting AbbyGabs in a few days, you’ll notice a brand new design. Thanks to pal and fellow blogger, Carrie Baughcum of Heck Awesome, for her support, inspiration, and creativity throughout this process!

And to those who worry I’ve lost my bonkers because I’m leaving Donnie Wahlberg, here’s a little secret between you and me: I still intend to stalk him on Twitter. Maybe just not as religiously as I’ll be stalking Nathan for awhile, as my heart heals.

PINK Warriors

I don’t know if you guys have noticed or not, but I’ve been having a hard time readjusting to “Reality After Vacation.” You know that feeling, right? You just took an awesome vacation filled with the kind of memories you want to relive over and over again. And at some point, you wake up and realize you’ve been telling the same stories about those memories over and over again for the better part of a month and you’re like “Holy crapballs! Is it really halfway through August already?!?”

Yeah. I miss San Diego.

But, if anything is going to pull me back into my own warped version of reality, it’s inevitably going to involve Donnie Wahlberg. (I know, you’re shocked.)

Last year, I introduced you to the lovely Selena–fellow Blockhead and fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation. If you need a refresher course, here’s a little picture of our heroine with the always droolworthy ‘Berg himself:

Selena

Click on the image, and you’ll be whisked away to Selena’s personal page on the Komen website!

Selena and I have two things in common: our adoration for all things Donnie, as well as a passion for finding a cure for the disease that has so affected our lives. My readers know that my mom, aunt, and grandmother are all breast cancer survivors, and that I even got a pink ribbon tattoo in their honor. Selena, however, lost her sister last year to cancer, and so she fights the good fight in her memory.

Her ferocity to create awareness, and the desire to find a cure, is to be commended and applauded. And I’d like to do anything I can to help.

So, every year, Selena launches a charity raffle. All you have to do is click over to her page, donate at least $5, make sure to include the phrase “LoveEternal” after your name in the recognition field, and you are automatically entered to win some amazing prizes!! This year, Selena has paired with ThoseWahlbergMen.com, and let me tell ya, Donnie girls, the swag is pretty sweet!!

Selena 2

With a $5 donation, you could win one Love Eternal Pink Ribbon shirt, one NKOTB “Five Brothers and a Million Sisters” hardcover book (great read, by the way),  and one $25 T-shirt gift card for ThoseWahlbergMen.com.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ll be entering the raffle post haste!

You have until August 20 to get your donation in for the contest, so make sure you click over and make a difference today! And it doesn’t matter if you live stateside or not–the contest includes free shipping to anywhere in the world!!

Last year, we helped Selena become the top grossing raffle on the site–she got an award, y’all!! Let’s make that happen again in 2013.

Good luck, Selena!! The AbbyGabs family is pulling for you to reach that $500 goal!!

The Buttons and The Pins and The Loud Fanfare

It’s the video blog you’ve all been asking for since Wednesday—my New Kids on the Block concert experience. Let me just say that, for the handful of videos that compile this 10 minute video blog, there are a dozen or more that didn’t make the cut. I tried to only use the best footage, and my favorite moments, to compile this glimpse into the concert for you guys. I could’ve made it twice as long, and I talked for at least 20 minutes on camera about the concert alone…but I’ve whittled it down to the very best, just for you. Enjoy.

If you can’t see the video above, point your browser here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFBquoM6sSE&feature=share&list=UUEczew4VOwLtc9F–J-rUUA

SPECIAL THANKS TO gal-pal, Jenn, who was my concert buddy and my forever-New Kids friend. To Brian, for making this experience happen for me–I can never tell you how grateful I am to you for everything. And to the New Kids on the Block, for making Wednesday everything I had hoped and dreamed for over the last 22 years. I can’t wait to do it again, and soon.

Pardon Me While I SQUEEEEE!!!!

Tomorrow is the day, y’all. THE day. THE BIGGEST DAY OF MY LIFE SO FAR.

Have no idea what I’m talking about? In case you missed it, here’s a quick recap:

That’s right. Tomorrow is the first NKOTB concert for me since 1990. And I’m SUPER excited. It’s marked on every single calendar in my house…

Pic 2 pic 1

…the calendar on my phone…

pic 3

…and it’s also part of an iPhone countdown (which I look at hourly. Because.)

pic 4

And so, with the most exciting thing that has ever happened in my life occurring in a little over 24 hours, I’ve started doing what any normal, sane person would do.

I’m squeeing at every possible minute.

I’m checking my Twitter feed, FB feed, and the internet for updates as the guys travel to Charlotte.

I’m making a mental checklist of all the things I need to pack, and wondering if Donnie Pinata will fit into my small suitcase.

And I’m preparing to make the world’s most glitter-tastic poster to wave around at the show, in hopes that it will gain Donnie’s attention, thereby securing me a kiss.

So—which image is your favorite, folks? Let me know. It’s going on the poster.

Image #1:

DW kiss 1

Image #2:

DW kiss 2

Image #3:

DW kiss 3

Vote! Because I’m starting on the poster ASAP, and I need the most convincing kiss photo possible to win my heart’s desire. (A reenactment of this photo, naturally.) (Don’t worry, I have Brian’s permission.) (Mostly.)

Guess What, Gang?

Today is my birthday.

2

Woo!

Truth be told, with all the stuff that’s been going on lately in my own little life, I don’t much feel like celebrating. That’s really saying something, because I LOVE my birthday. I’m all about partying down and such, especially when it’s in my own honor.

(It’s the deeply buried narcissist in me. I can’t help it.)

I mean, in the life of Abby Gabs, I’ve shared my birthday moments with you, ranging from awesome gifts to the ultimate in all of birthdaylandia…THE Donnie Wahlberg Pinata. I’m a lucky, lucky girl. For the most part, my birthdays have been pretty fantastic.

But as my head hit my pillow last night, I turned to Brian and said, “I miss it when birthdays were exciting.”

I remember being nine years old, wanting desperately to be ten for, like, EVER. The countdown started in January–I was always aware of how many days were left until that all important tenth birthday. The night before was like Christmas Eve on steroids–I quivered with excitement beneath my New Kids on the Block comforter.

And when the big day came? I felt like a superhero rock star princess.

1

My parents threw me a surprise slumber party, and I was officially the coolest kid at school. Friends, and pizza, and a huge cake. Hugs, and cards, and a mountain of gifts.

In short? It was awesome.

I wish birthdays were like that as an adult. Don’t you miss that feeling? I do.

Sigh.

Oh wait…I just remembered what I am getting for my birthday this year. NKOTB in concert—-T minus 6 days and counting. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

(*Abby quivers with excitement in her office desk chair.)

Let The Countdown Begin

Today is Monday, May 20, 2013.

In exactly 30 days, something extraordinary happens to me. Join me as the countdown begins.
