New AbbyGabs Ad Campaign

As a writer, the sole thing you’re yearning for is an audience. I have the voice, I have the forum, and I have the Photoshop…but I’m struggling with promoting my blog and attracting new readers.

My loyal readers (you know who you are….Mom….) are wonderful and I adore you all!! I just want MORE readers. I want people to talk about me over lunch somewhere in Iowa. I want my blog to be a “big deal’ in the blogosphere.

So, I’m working on my promotion skills. I tweet (although I’m still rather new at it, and I find aspects of Twitter very confusing.) I also Facebook (which I’m much more familiar with, although, funnily enough, I have fewer followers there than on Twitter right now). I also talk about my blog to the point of annoyance, I’m sure. And my husband, sweet man that he is, also shoves my blog to the forefront of most any discussion.

Most of my followers are friends and family. Which is TERRIFIC. Now, I just need to reach a broader audience.

So, here are a few ideas I’m kicking around for a new AbbyGabs Ad Campaign.

Me, a sandwich board, a bell, and a busy mall food court. Cheap and effective.
A plethora of enticing items for your vehicle…
Bus ads can’t be THAT expensive….can they?
I’ve always dreamed of seeing my name in lights in the Big Apple…
Hey, go big or go home, right?

Ok, I’m tapped out. Anyone else have any bright ideas when it comes to promoting my blog?

I love your blog…I have a lot of readers, how ’bout I give you a shout out?
    (alliteration, it’s fun!)

Are you up to a short guest post? Email me!

Abby, my human says you should come over and visit Tribal Blogs ( – it was put together by a couple of women who have fun blogs and not only does it have a lot of articles about getting traffic and such, it’s a great community and you would fit in really well there. The folks who are members there would love your blog.

P.S. This does not mean I have forgotten that you have not properly celebrated Scooter’s birthday on his neglected blog!

Commenting on other people’s blogs is a good way to lure people to come check you out. Make sure comments are not spammy, are thoughtful, and appropriate for the blog that they posted. Good luck!

First time by your blog–I like it. I found it via EC ‘doing drops’, using the EC/Mozilla tool-bar ‘Humor category’ which I normally don’t do.

I really hate to ‘drop’, I would rather visit interesting blogs and comment.

But you have to pay your dues. You may want to check out || sometimes a different audience. You can advertise for $14 a month(don’t haveta’) and you get paid back$$ in various ways—won’t make you rich, but…

    Keep it up!

Good luck with your ad campaign! I particularly like the sandwich board. Probably the most affordable way to start…and, to be completely honest, I would totally check out a blog if I saw a freak running around with a sandwich board! Haha!

OK, you probably already know this…but I think that the best way to build readership is to connect with other like-minded bloggers by writing thoughtful comments. And also, I think it’s pretty normal to not have a ton of readers for the first little while. I’m an inch past 2 months now, and I’m only just starting to get more readers. Of course, what do I know? Mine isn’t the “World’s # 1 Blog”! 😉

The DDoS attack against seems to have ended or it has been taken care of so now my blog and this blog are showing up again under their right current domains. Nice to know the attack didn’t last more than a day.

@Don: I try to use EC, but it takes up SO much time, I drop rarely. But I’m glad you found me that way!! I’ll definitely check out adgitize–thanks for the hint!

@Stephanie: I’m convinced that the sandwich board would work…maybe. As far as your advice on commenting–you’re right! I was a “lurker” for years…now I’m definitely leaving comments all over the place. Here’s hoping it brings in some readers soon! 🙂

@Mr. Mudan: Thank goodness, right? I was having a major meltdown. Glad to see you’re back in business, as well.
